There is an artist who lives here in Tacoma that is a gift to the city. Anne DeMille Flood has been doing colored pencil works of art for years now. You will see her at the art festivals around and you might not get the tremendous part she has played in illustrating Tacoma. Not only are her colored pencil skills absolutely astonishing, but her ability to capture the essential beauty of a place is uncanny. She finds the historical buildings in Tacoma and sees the original soul of the glory days. Her works feel important and timeless because of this. You are not just looking at another pretty picture postcard picture. Annes work evokes the decades and decades of love that went into these structures. She makes these places seem precious.
I think Anne should get an award from the city for doing more to promote Tacoma to its natives as well as tourists. She makes you feel proud to live here. I purchased an original about 10 years ago and never never grow tired of looking at it. If there were a fire in my house it is one the first things I would grab. Look at her website and marvel at what she has done. http://annedemilleflood.com/
