Fay Jones is a very well known artist from this area. Her resume is as long as my arm literally. She went to school at the Rhode Island School of Design. Although I am not a great fan of art schools, the Resdi(as people affectionately call it for short) is good. Dale Chihuly went there too.
Her work is considered great because of her fantastic sense of design. Her quirky characters are beautifully drawn and I love the way she does zero perspective. I just have an affinity for that kind of look. She paints sailors a lot and I heard an interview with her on the radio and they asked her if they had some kind of meaning to her. Fay said she just liked to draw them. That was great to hear because it goes with my theory that artist paint what they have to not what they know.
